So you know that checking out the waterfalls is one of the must-do things during monsoon in Goa. And if you didn’t, you know now! Monsoon is when the waterfalls come alive with the burst of flowing water from the rains! But where do you go for these spectacular waterfall sightings? Here’s a list of a few of your options so you can experience waterfalls in Goa. (And some are worth a visit even when it’s not monsoon season!)
Some of the waterfalls are accessible for viewing by jeep, some are the most fun by foot, and some are best with a local guide. You are sure to be in for an adventure for a monsoon trek to any of these waterfalls. Not all of the waterfalls will dry up completely outside of the rainy season, so a non-monsoon trek could be in order too! When going to any of these waterfalls, make sure you are adequately prepared! Also be careful and be safe. It could get a little slippery and terrain may be uneven.
Dudhsagar Waterfalls
Take a trip to one of India’s highest waterfalls right in Goa! That would be the Dudhsagar Waterfalls located on the east side of the state close to the Goa-Karnataka border. It’s a multi-tiered waterfall which makes it a magnificent sight to see. Since it is within Mollem National Park, you will also have plenty of other nature and wildlife to take in, alongside your trip to the Dudhsagar Waterfalls! (Dudhsagar is pictured above as the main photo. The photo was taken during non-monsoon season, meaning the water flow was much less during this time, but still a magnificent sight to see!)

Kuskem Waterfalls
Located deep in the forest in south Goa, the Kuskem Waterfalls are a hidden gem. It’s been known to be a bit rocky, so take precautions! This waterfall has also been known to dry out, so it’s best to go during monsoon season to get the view of the gushing water. It is located near the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the main wildlife sanctuaries in Goa, so maybe you want to double up and check out both the waterfall and wildlife sanctuary during your trip!
Arvalem Waterfalls
Caves, monkeys, a temple, and a waterfall. That’s what you can get with a day trip to the Arvalem Waterfalls. There are two main trails you can take to get to the Arvalem Waterfalls. One is a bit more challenging and takes you to the top of a hill from which you hike down. The other route is a bit easier and goes directly to the temple and the waterfall. And if you are in the area, add the Arvalem Caves to your itinerary so you can experience a part of Goa’s history that dates back to the 6th century. The caves are about a 10 minute drive from the waterfalls. You may also see this place mentioned as the Harvalem Waterfalls.
Tambdi Surla Waterfalls
To reach the Tambdi Surla Waterfalls located on the east side of Goa, you will be trekking through the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. A trip to these falls will also offer you a chance to experience another part of Goa’s history. It is about a 90 minute hike from the famed Tambdi Surla Temple. This temple is known as the oldest temple in Goa, dating back to the 12th century.
Hivrem Waterfalls
Somewhat near Valpoi in the northeastern part of Goa, Hivrem is a quaint little Goan village. To view the waterfalls requires a challenging trek, but sure to be worth it!
Netravali’s Waterfalls: Savari, Mainapi, Sonal
On the south side of Goa and within the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, there are three waterfalls you’ll want to consider checking out: Savari, Mainapi, and Sonal. Of these three waterfalls, Savari is probably the most visited. Mainapi is a smaller waterfall, but if you’re into trekking, you’ll enjoy the journey on the way to the destination! It’s been considered among the more difficult treks in Goa, and you’re rewarded with the view of the Mainapi Waterfalls. To reach the Sonal Waterfalls you will also come across steep climbs and densely forested areas.

- Kesarval Waterfalls: The Kesarval Spring with its waterfall is within striking distance of Goa’s capital city of Panjim
- Sada Waterfalls: Not to be confused with Karnataka’s Sada on the Goa-Karnataka border, Goa’s Sada Waterfalls is located in central Goa near Ponda

- Swimsuit or swimming shirt aka rash guard
- rash guard: swim set for women and swim shirt for men
- Water shoes
- Waterproof phone case (so you can capture pictures of fishies underwater!)
- cheapo phone case OR waterproof camera
- I also have this "camera" wrist float to attach to my cheapo waterproof phone case so my phone won't sink to the bottom of the ocean in case I somehow let go of it. (Mine does stay afloat - test this for yourself before completely trusting it!)
- Swimming goggles or snorkeling mask set
- Reef-safe(r) sunscreen
- lightweight travel towel:

I also don't go snorkeling without a personal swim float buoy. Not only does it help to keep me visible, but it makes for a perfect way to rest out in deeper water! Oh, and it also serves as a dry bag so I can take stuff into the water with me.
Another way I have taken valuables into the water with me is to wear a travel money belt that I don't mind getting wet with salt water (it's not waterproof but I have several so I just use one of them) and then I put things in a ziplock freezer bag, and put that freezer bag in the money belt.
There are also designated waterproof waist pouches that you can store your valuables and take into the water with you.
