The sun and summer heat can sap your energy quickly, and this can affect your game out on the golf course. Here are some tips for better golf in hot weather to help you stay fresh longer so you can improve your hot weather golf game!
Move to the shade while you’re waiting to hit the ball
How many times have you seen people waiting for the green to clear out, and they are standing with the sun beating down on them? Help to conserve your energy and try not to do that for too long. No matter where it is that you’re waiting, whether it’s on the fairway or it’s at the tee box, just walk a few steps to find some shade to wait in. A little bit of time here and there in the shade as opposed to out in the sun will allow you to feel better throughout your round when you’re golfing in hot weather. So hang out in the shade when you can! But in order to do that, you need to…

Pick your summer golf course wisely
In order to be able to stand in the shade to conserve your energy, you’ll need to be able find some shade to stand in! So if you want to golf and you know it’s going to be in hot weather, pick a course that will offer some coverage with a tree-lined course.
Hydrate: Before, during, and after
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Staying hydrated in hot weather is crucial with any outdoor sport, and golf is no different. Start the hydration process even before you play. You’ll be losing more water than usual through sweat when you golf in hot weather, so start the process before you start golfing and have plenty of water before you even tee it up. Then continue that process as you’re playing throughout your round, and then following play you want to make sure to replenish those lost fluids as well. When you golf in really hot weather, you’re likely to have lost more fluids than you consumed, even if you are continually sipping water when you’re out on the golf course.
Freeze your water bottle
The night before you go out and golf, freeze a water bottle so you’ll have ice-cold water available to you throughout your round as it continues to melt while you’re out on the golf course.
Put a cold towel on your neck to cool you off
Keep a wet towel on ice in your cooler. Every few holes, or maybe even every hole if it is really hot, put the towel on the back of your neck. This will help to keep your body cool and fresh longer for a better golf game. Speaking of your neck…
Pop that collar
Hopefully you are already applying sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun exposure. When you’re out on the golf course, you are directly exposing your neck to the sun as it’s beating down on you. Flipping your collar up will give you extra protection for a part of your body that is more prone to burning.
HAPPY SUMMER GOLFING!
