The free hula show in Waikiki!
Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, there’s a chance for you to get a taste of Hawaiian culture right in the heart of Waikiki!
You’ll be treated to authentic Hawaiian music and Hawaiian dancing. The show starts off with a torch lighting ceremony and the blowing of a conch shell.
The Hawaiian cultural show takes place outdoors right on the beach at sunset starting around 6pm or 6:30pm depending on the time of year. November, December, January starts at 6pm, and the rest of the year starts at 6:30pm.
Timings are subject to change and cancellation. Occasionally there are days that the show will not be happening. Check the calendar of events at the Waikiki Improvement Association as your arrival date to Hawaii gets closer. The calendar is out 1-2 months in advance and will tell you any days that there is no show.
Being an outdoor show, the show is also weather dependent and could be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Where the hula show is located: Kuhio Beach Park in Waikiki
This free hula show takes place at the Kuhio Beach Mound at Kuhio Beach Park. The above picture shows the scenes of the mound during the day.
The grassy area you see some people lounging out is the space for you to sit and enjoy the show!
The three torches you see there get lit with fire during the torch lighting ceremony before the hula show begins.
The makeshift stage is away from the beach side where the performers do their thing, so the beach will be behind you as you watch the show.
And while you’re waiting for the show to begin, you have the views of the sunset on the beach…

🐠 Here are things you must consider packing!
- Swimsuit or swimming shirt aka rash guard
- rash guard: swim set for women and swim shirt for men
- Water shoes
- Waterproof phone case (so you can capture pictures of fishies underwater!)
- cheapo phone case OR waterproof camera
- I also have this "camera" wrist float to attach to my cheapo waterproof phone case so my phone won't sink to the bottom of the ocean in case I somehow let go of it. (Mine does stay afloat - test this for yourself before completely trusting it!)
- Swimming goggles or snorkeling mask set
- Reef-safe(r) sunscreen

I also don't go snorkeling without a personal swim float buoy. Not only does it help to keep me visible, but it makes for a perfect way to rest out in deeper water! Oh, and it also serves as a dry bag so I can take stuff into the water with me.
Another way I have taken valuables into the water with me is to wear a travel money belt that I don't mind getting wet with salt water (it's not waterproof but I have several so I just use one of them) and then I put things in a ziplock freezer bag, and put that freezer bag in the money belt.
There are also designated waterproof waist pouches that you can store your valuables and take into the water with you.
