What to wear to a luau

Hale Koa Luau, Hale Koa Hotel, Waikiki

The splendor and spectacle of an ancient Hawaiian tradition comes alive at the Hale Koa Luau! As you enter our tropical garden, you are greeted with a lei and taken back to an old Hawaiian setting of thatched hale (houses) that protect guests from the misty rain, while maintaining the outdoor ambiance.

A Hawaiian musical duo and lei making demonstrations will keep you entertained during cocktail hour. Experience an authentic imu (Hawaiian underground oven) ceremony followed by a bountiful feast of authentic local flavors. Polynesian Cultural Center Luau, North Shore

In ancient Hawaii, it was customary to celebrate special occasions with ohana (family) and friends. Today, we continue the tradition of the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Held in a covered outdoor venue against a background of waterfalls and lush gardens, the Ali’i Luau is a royal celebration of our cultural heritage which includes the Royal Court procession, presentation of the imu (pork baked in an underground oven), and delicious traditional food and lively Hawaiian entertainment.

In addition to the luau, all-day packages to the Polynesian Cultural Center include exploring authentic villages from 6 Pacific cultures as they demonstrate their arts, music, history, and games. 🐠 Here are things you must consider packing!


I also don't go snorkeling without a personal swim float buoy. Not only does it help to keep me visible, but it makes for a perfect way to rest out in deeper water! Oh, and it also serves as a dry bag so I can take stuff into the water with me.

Another way I have taken valuables into the water with me is to wear a travel money belt that I don't mind getting wet with salt water (it's not waterproof but I have several so I just use one of them) and then I put things in a ziplock freezer bag, and put that freezer bag in the money belt.

There are also designated waterproof waist pouches that you can store your valuables and take into the water with you.
