Flying into Honolulu Airport? Where to sit on your flight to Hawaii

With all the other things involved in planning your Hawaii vacation, you probably haven’t put much thought into your flight to Honolulu, except for getting a cheap flight to Hawaii.

But nothing says you’ve arrived in Hawaii like seeing aerial views of Oahu! And that includes seeing Waikiki, Honolulu, and the Diamond Head Crater from above!

Make sure you’re sitting on the correct side of the plane so you can get those picture-perfect views!

Even with a cheap flight to Hawaii, you’re paying hundreds of dollars to fly to Honolulu, so you might as well get the most out of your ticket!

So, which side of the plane do you need to sit on for your flight into Honolulu airport?

This is for flights coming from the mainland United States and Canada.

Of course, there are always possibilities of situations in which your flight course may change. So this is NOT guaranteed!

But for your best chance of getting those iconic Hawaii views flying to Honolulu…

When you’re flying INTO Honolulu airport, sit on the RIGHT side of the plane.

Here, the right side means the right-hand side when you are sitting on the plane, facing forward.

So as you are looking at the seating arrangement for your airline, be sure you are thinking about it from this point of view.

So this means…

When you’re flying OUT OF Honolulu airport, sit on the LEFT side of the plane.

Same thing, this means the left-hand side when you are sitting on the plane facing forward.

How can you choose your seating arrangement of your flight to the Oahu airport?

This will depend on your airline.

You may be able to choose your seat when you buy your tickets to Oahu.

Sometimes it requires clicking an extra button to say you want to choose your seat assignment.

The default may be to not choose, so be on the lookout for it.

If you’ve already bought your Hawaii tickets, you may be able to log in to your reservation details and change your seats.

Or you may have to wait until it’s time to check in for your Honolulu flight.

The earlier you can choose or change your seats, the better!

Consider that your ideal seating arrangement may already be taken.

If you’re looking to take pictures, and not just get the views, you may also consider the obstruction of the airplane wing in choosing the front, middle, or back of the plane.

Although, you may not consider the wing to be an obstruction, as you can make it a good picture of the aerial view with the wing! 😉

I also don't go snorkeling without a personal swim float buoy. Not only does it help to keep me visible, but it makes for a perfect way to rest out in deeper water! Oh, and it also serves as a dry bag so I can take stuff into the water with me.

Another way I have taken valuables into the water with me is to wear a travel money belt that I don't mind getting wet with salt water (it's not waterproof but I have several so I just use one of them) and then I put things in a ziplock freezer bag, and put that freezer bag in the money belt.

There are also designated waterproof waist pouches that you can store your valuables and take into the water with you.
